My Work

I am a Forest Defender. I've been an activist since 2018 when I was 15 years old. My goal is to stand up for the rights of the non-human world, primarily those in the forests of the Pacific Northwest that I call home. I am a primitivist and beyond working towards an end to industrial logging I hope that my work will contribute to re-wilding our planet and creating a post-civilization society that is a part of the land and indigenous to place.

Mapping: The most important skill that I bring to the table as a forest defender is my ability to use satellite imagery and geospatial data sets to identify previously unknown stands of old-growth and legacy forests at risk of being destroyed. I track logging approvals across Washington State and British Columbia and coordinate with community groups across Cascadia to work to protect areas at risk. My discovery of old growth logging planned in the Fairy Creek Watershed, once communicated to on-the-ground activists during the COVID-19 lockdown led to the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history.

Ground-Truthing & Photography: I ground-truth timber sales and old-growth forests across Cascadia, my main focus is on Vancouver Island where I document old-growth cut blocks before and after they are logged. I also focus much of my time on documenting endangered species in these cut blocks. One such ground-truthing exhibition resulted in the discovery of one of the only populations of Oldgrowth Specklebelly Lichen in British Columbia, in Bugaboo Creek cut block 4733. I also ground truth Washington State Department of Natural Resources timber sales for the Legacy Forest Defense Coalition, and document old growth on private lands.

Community Organizing: I am a board member of Mason County Climate Justice and work with the Legacy Forest Defense Coalition. I negotiate land sales with logging companies and identify real estate listed on the open market that contains old growth. I work with community groups to raise the funds necessary to purchase these areas in projects across Cascadia.

Social Media: I work with a large number of groups to raise awareness using social media including the Fairy Creek Blockade media team which has reached millions of people on social media on a monthly basis. I also used social media to raise money for land purchases and legal funds, and have used social media to share petitions, gaining tens of thousands of signatures. I'm not a big fan of social media or petition-style activism however they have both proved useful and effective.

Filmmaking: I am a filmmaker. I’ve been filmmaking since I was 14 years old and I am the creator of the documentary Eden's Last Chance which was released in spring 2023. I have video editing and cinematography skills that I use across my activism.

If you'd like to support my work.

My life of activism is a full-time job, and I hope to continue it. I know that my energy is best spent working to protect forests. I've set up this Patreon and hope that folks who value my work will help support it. This financial security will allow me to spend all of my time working to protect forests and trying to create the world that I think we all want to see.

If your organization/community group/movement needs someone to run social media accounts, do GIS mapping, ground-truthing, video editing or community outreach don't hesitate to reach out. Any paid work will help me fund the rest of my life of activism, so thank you!

Please note that I do not accept payment or donations for any of my activism taking place in Canada, all of my activism in British Columbia is on strictly volunteer bases.
